Shopping For Accessories Quench Urge To Splurge

Scarf by DKNY‘Tis the season for great summer sales, and you know what that means – temptation to buy for fall.  After many a bargain-hunt-turned-serious-splurge, I’ve learned to thwart my spendthrift habits with a classic example of psychological deterrence: I distract myself with season-neutral accessories.

Cheaper than shoes or a dress, accessories are the most cost-effective way to spice up your closet without shelling out serious cash. With countless ways to wear and pair, they offer the quickest route to a fresh new wardrobe where you’d otherwise end up with just one new outfit.

Statement jewelry is a classic way to switch up your look. In the South Side, Jupe Boutique carries a variety of matchless pieces from Peasant Jewelry, a line by Pittsburgh native Mike Hickey.  He crafts his one-of-a-kind pieces from vintage chains, antique keys and charms, rosaries, animal bones, and other aged materials; they’re sure to double as both attractive jewelry and instant conversation pieces.

Neck scarves are another chic way to add a quick element of style and sophistication to any old outfit.  For the latest in scarves and wraps, shop Chick Downtown on Liberty Avenue.  Their collection includes elegant fabrics like pleated chiffon and colorful floral pashminas.

Layers of bangles may be my favorite way to accessorize when my look is too Plain Jane.  Wearing several bracelets at once is an easy way to adorn a sleeveless wrist.  If you know just what you’re looking for, design your own charm-bead bracelet by Chamilia at Polished Boutique in SouthSide Works.  With beautiful beads made of Italian Murano glass, 14k gold, sterling silver, Swarovski crystals and colored stones; these bracelets are easy to mix and match to embellish any outfit.

Instead of splurging on ‘the look’ of the season, stock up on accessories that will improve your look for months to come.
